Kanchipuram is known as ‘The Silk City of India”. Kanchipuram sarees are known for their technical excellence and intricate traditional designs and has a weaving tradition of more than 400 years. The most popular colours used are blue, black, green and mustard often displaying designs of birds, animals, leaves, flowers with a brick red border. Although expensive because of the use of zari and silk threads, they continue to find space in the wardrobes of every saree lover. Almost every village around Kanchipuram city was involved in handloom weaving until recently. Because of certain challenges, many families, especially youngsters have opted out of weaving as an occupation. At Digikarhga we aspire to overcome these challenges by creating Digipreneurs who will find creative and effective ways of bringing value to their tradition.
