Kantha embroidery from Birbhum, especially the Santiniketan and Bolpur region of West Bengal, is known for its delicate running stitches and beautiful storytelling through thread. What began as a tradition of women stitching together old saris and dhotis to make warm quilts (Nakshi Kantha) has today evolved into a celebrated embroidery style used on sarees, dupattas, stoles, garments, and home furnishings.
